WomenWelly · Strong body. Clear head. Better information.

Who we are

Nine journalists and a five-strong medical review board. Everyone who touches a story is named on it.

Editorial team

The people who report, edit and test.

Nadia Okonjo

Senior Fitness Editor · London

Nadia Okonjo is WomenWelly's senior fitness editor. A strength coach for nine years before she moved into journalism, she writes about training programming, barbell technique and the gap between what gets posted online and what a coach would actually put in a client's plan. She competes in masters powerlifting and has the deadlift calluses to prove it.

Ruth Alvarez

Health Director · Manchester

Ruth Alvarez runs WomenWelly's health desk. She has spent fourteen years covering medicine and public health, with a particular focus on the conditions that are under-researched in women — endometriosis, autoimmune disease and the long arc of perimenopause. She reads the study before she reads the press release.

Imogen Clarke

Nutrition Editor · Bristol

Imogen Clarke is WomenWelly's nutrition editor and a registered nutritionist. She specialises in translating dietary research into food that fits a real week, and has a low tolerance for anything sold as a detox. She develops and tests every recipe that runs on the site.

Jia-Lin Tan

Beauty Director · London

Jia-Lin Tan leads beauty at WomenWelly. She came to journalism from cosmetic formulation, which means she reads an INCI list before she reads the front of the bottle. She covers skin barrier science, hair loss and the dermatology behind the trend cycle.

Margo Petrov

Sex & Relationships Editor · Edinburgh

Margo Petrov writes about desire, intimacy and the practical mechanics of long relationships. She trained as a relationship counsellor and interviews the clinicians she once studied under. She believes most sex problems are conversation problems wearing a disguise.

Delphine Roy

Life & Money Editor · London

Delphine Roy covers work, money and the logistics of a well-run life. A former financial reporter, she is unusually good at making a salary negotiation feel like a solvable spreadsheet problem rather than a personality test.

Sara Whitfield

Mind & Sleep Reporter · Leeds

Sara Whitfield reports on mental health, sleep and the overlap between them. She is careful about the line between distress and diagnosis, and spends a lot of her time asking clinicians to define their terms.

Tess Armitage

Reviews Editor · Glasgow

Tess Armitage runs WomenWelly's testing programme. She has worn more recovery trackers than any person reasonably should and keeps a spreadsheet of every night of sleep since 2021. She buys every product she reviews.

How review works

A reporter files. An editor edits. If the piece makes a claim about health — a mechanism, a prevalence, a treatment, a risk — it then goes to the clinician on the board whose specialty it falls within.

They check the claims against the evidence, flag anything overstated, and are free to require changes. Their name appears on the published article. They review for accuracy and safety; they do not have a veto over what we choose to cover, and they are not asked to approve the angle.

Reviewers are paid a flat fee for their time and hold no equity in the publication.
